German GP 2018

German GP 2018

This season is crossing its middle point as F1 heads to Germany which holds the 11th out of the 21 Grand Prix this year. The first-ever, and probably last, triple-header has been completed with Ferrari and Vettel being the winners. Hamilton is hoping to close the 8-point gap to Vettel while Bottas needs to finally get a break and start winning some good points.

The model is giving Hamilton a 57% chance over Vettel in qualifying but predicts the German to come on top in the race (52% over Lewis). While the last time F1 visited the Hockenheimring back in 2016 Mercedes and Red Bulls were fighting for the podium positions, this time I expect the Ferraris to be strong in a GP only a 90 minutes drive far from Mercedes’ headquarters. Let’s also see if Leclerc can surprise us one more time. Will he be given a position in the Prancing Horse next year?

Ricciardo’s got a penalty due to exceeding the season-long limit for certain power unit components and is going to start last.
