Mercedes definitely upped their game in Barcelona where their new car helped both drivers get on the podium (partially thanks to Perez screwing qualifying). It remains to be seen if they are the team to beat behind Red Bull or if their performance was an one-off. In any case, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari will have a huge fight for the 2nd place in the constructor’s championship. I expect the balance to change race after race throughout the year. I do hope that these teams will be fighting for the top spot in the standings in 2024.
In a race where Fernando Alonso got a surprising 2nd place in the qualifying session last year with a not-so-strong Alpine, could he get a glance at the pole position this year? The model doesn’t think so – well, not most of us do – but who knows!
Hulkenberg, Sainz, Tsunoda and Stroll have all been handed grid penalties.
