Spanish GP 2023

Alonso got a step higher in the podium in Monaco and will try his best to win his home grand prix at Barcelona this weekend. The circuit will feature a new layout without the chicane towards the end of the lap – the one that had been used till 2006. He will be the only driver in the current grid who has driven in this layout but I don’t think it will give him any real advantage. The open questions for this race is whether Fernando can have a realistic shot at the victory in his home race and how Perez will respond to what was his worst race so far in 2023 that resulted in him being 39 points behind his teammate in the drivers’ championship.

The model predicts an one-two for the Red Bulls which is totally reasonable. Don’t forget that this is the circuit that Max got his first taste of victory a few years ago. However, I believe that with some favorable circumstances, Alonso can still get a shot at the 2nd place of the podium.

Gasly got two three-place grid penalties for impeding other drivers.
